Experience

Leadership experience is an opportunity for student leaders to be engaged and involved in leadership practice outside of training and academics. Depending on the level of certification, students will be required to complete a combination of community service hours (ranging from 8-16 hours), serve in a leadership role on the UCCS campus, and complete COMM 4950-Seminar in Leadership and Organizational Change, where over the course of a semester students will be responsible for leading a team project. Serving in a leadership role on campus is defined by the following parameters:

  • Is responsible for the work of others
  • Is responsible for the work of others
  • Serves as the representative of an organization
  • Is in a position to mediate / resolve conflict within an organization
  • Integrates and reconciles personal goals with organizational goals
  • Participates in the strategic planning of an organization
  • Motivates others
